Give It All You've Got!
Our second unit of study centers around people who have worked hard to attain their goals. We will be reading about people such as: Wilma Rudolph, Oscar Pistorius, Manteo Mitchell, Michael Phelps, David Boudia, Greg Louganis, Katy Ladecky, Bethany Hamilton, Misty May-Treanor, Kerry Walsh-Jennings (notice a pattern of Olympians?), Ruby Bridges, and others.
We will focus on the following skills during this unit:
Fact vs. Opinion; Evaluating text; Comparison and Contrast; Predicting and Inferring; Identifying main idea and details; Mood; Text Organization/structure
Guiding Questions for this unit:
1) What does the phrase give it all you've got mean?
2) In what kinds of situations might a person be required to give it all? (we will also focus this question on each person we study.
3) What examples can you name of people who tried very hard to reach a goal?
4) How could others be motivated by this person's story?
